Alien Tom Releases Downtempo Techno Album This Too Shall Pass
Collaboration with Kathia Rudametkin anchors a reflective, genre-shifting record born from uncertain times
This Too Shall Pass, the latest release from Alien Tom, started as a dance music record but evolved into something more meditative. Written and produced between 2019 and the long pause that followed, the seven-track album marks a personal and musical shift—away from the club, into deeper rhythms and slower tempos.
What began in the familiar world of house and techno gradually transformed. As lockdowns stretched on and dance floors emptied, the music changed. When Alien Tom returned to the studio after months of stillness, instinct took over: the tempo slowed. Track after track, what had once been dance-floor material became something closer to downtempo techno—moody, minimal, and grounded.
A key part of the record’s tone came through collaboration with Kathia Rudametkin. Known for her work as a vocalist, violist, and experimental artist, Kathia brought texture and emotional depth to the project. The slowed-down compositions left space between the beats—space that Kathia filled with voice, strings, and sonic nuance. Her contribution shaped the final version of the album in essential ways.
This Too Shall Pass is both a personal document and a gesture forward. While rooted in darker times, it looks ahead. More music is on the way.
